Trump's Niece Calls Ex-President's Mugshot 'Smallest Of Victories' That Brought Out His 'Humiliation And Abject Terror:' 'It's All Downhill For Him From There'

Zinger Key Points
  • Despite the "over-the-top coverage" and "grotesque display of privilege" Trump was still treated like any other criminal, says his niece.
  • She says the ex-president's mugshot showed the inability to keep himself from feeling the all-encompassing humiliation and abject terror.

Donald Trump became the first U.S. president who had his mugshot taken after he surrendered at the Fulton County jail. The former president's niece Mary Trump weighed in on the development in a substack post on Friday.

What Happened: Donald Trump continues to benefit from the position he once held and benefit from having been allowed to wield that power, said Mary Trump in the post. She referred to the “absurd motorcades” used en route to the jail and back and the “play-by-play coverage” Thursday's development received.

Expressing her disapproval, the psychologist said, “I hope we can finally dispense with the nonsensical notion that everyone is treated equally under the law.”

Donald Trump's power and privilege were evident throughout, Mary Trump said. “He was in total control of conveying the sense that he was somehow special and above the law despite the fact that he was being indicted,” she added

The ex-president's niece, who is also a podcaster questioned the source of funding for those motorcycles and SUVs and the massive law enforcement necessary to shut down the entire route from the airport where his plane landed to the Fulton County jail and back again.

Cowardice Beneath Bravado: Notwithstanding the “over-the-top coverage and the grotesque display of privilege” Donald Trump was still treated like any other criminal defendant, Mary Trump said.

“He surrendered, submitted, was in custody,” she said, adding that he had a mugshot taken and got fingerprinted.

The mugshot showed the “inability to keep himself from feeling the all-encompassing humiliation and abject terror… that keeps seeping up from his unconscious,” Mary Trump said.

Smallest Victory: In the grand scheme of things, the psychologist sees Thursday's surrender as the “smallest of victories.”

“And, for what it's worth, this was the worst day he has ever lived through—and it's all downhill for him from there.”
