Apple Inc. AAPL could supercharge data transfer speeds on the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro with a separate Thunderbolt cable.
What Happened: The iPhone 15 Pro is expected to support "at least" USB 3.2 technology. A new rumor says that Apple could offer a USB 4.0 or Thunderbolt cable capable of achieving data transfer speeds of up to 40Gbps.
Known Apple collector Kosutami posted these details on X (formerly Twitter), giving us some insight into what else we can expect from the iPhone 15 Pro. The tipster had previously revealed that the standard iPhone 15 could support only USB 2.0, and the faster USB 3.0 protocol could be restricted to the iPhone 15 Pro.
Earlier, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed that the iPhone 15 Pro models could support "at least" USB 3.2 technology.
Joining the dots, it seems like the iPhone 15 Pro could support USB 4.0 as well, which allows users to transfer data at twice the speed of USB 3.0.
Faster Charging Speeds, Too? In addition to this, the tipster also says that the Thunderbolt cable could support charging speeds of up to 150W, but that does not mean the iPhone 15 Pro will support those speeds.
A previous report suggests that thanks to the USB-C port, the iPhone 15 Pro models could support up to 30% faster charging speeds – from 27W currently to 35W.
Apple could also debut color-matched USB-C cables along with the iPhone 15 series, extending it up to 1.5 meters.
The iPhone 15 series is expected to launch on September 12.
