Elon Musk criticizes LinkedIn as 'cringe' and hints at a cooler alternative through everything app, X, amid rising global users and previous tensions with co-founder Reid Hoffman.
Elon Musk publicly expressed his disdain for Microsoft Corporation’s MSFT LinkedIn, calling it “cringe,” and hinted that the everything app, X, plans to introduce an alternative with promises of being far more “cool.”
What Happened: Musk’s response and suggestion of an alternative came in response to a post that read, “Is there anything worse than LinkedIn?”
The tech billionaire, who spearheads Tesla and SpaceX and acquired Twitter for $44 billion in October 2022, said he just asks people to email their bio or resume.

In the comment section, some users also shared their frustrations with LinkedIn, citing exaggerated job titles and qualifications. Others recounted bizarre LinkedIn encounters, such as individuals mentioning affiliation with prestigious institutions for short programs taken years ago.
Why It’s Important: Musk and LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, who sold the platform to Microsoft in 2016, have been long-time friends.
However, in May this year, Hoffman criticized Musk for signing an “open letter” asking to pause AI trials “more powerful” than OpenAI’s GPT-4, saying, “And Elon — while signing that letter — is trying to hire a whole team and stand up an AI effort.”
According to Statista, from 2024 to 2027, the worldwide count of LinkedIn users is expected to see a cumulative increase of 82.6% million, representing an 11.07% rise.
The German database company predicted that following five consecutive years of growth, the LinkedIn user community is projected to reach a peak of 838.43 million users.
