A senior GOP aide said that September will be a significant month as House Republicans are inching closer to launching an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, reported CBS News.
The aide also hails the testimonies by two IRS whistleblowers about the government’s investigation handling as a “game changer.”
In September, Attorney General Merrick Garland is anticipated to face questions before the House Judiciary Committee over inconsistencies in statements about the authority of then-U.S. Attorney David Weiss to bring charges in Hunter Biden’s investigation. The two IRS whistleblowers, supervisory agent Gary Shapley and case agent Joseph Ziegler have disputed whether Weiss had the ultimate authority.

Representative Jason Smith, the Republican chairman of the House GOP-led Ways and Means Committee, has also requested interviews with two senior IRS officials, Michael Batdorf and Darrell Waldon, in early September regarding a meeting that allegedly discussed updates on the Hunter Biden case. Smith stated that the IRS officials have so far “refused to voluntarily cooperate” with the request for a transcribed interview, leading to the subpoena.
White House spokesperson Ian Sams has dismissed these impeachment plans as baseless, predicting a “backfire” for congressional Republicans. He urged Republicans to heed the voices of their colleagues who have admitted there is no evidence for their allegations.
