Former Trump Attorney John Eastman Fights Back Against Georgia Election Fraud Allegations: 'We Did Nothing Wrong'

John Eastman, the former lawyer for ex-President Donald Trump, has refuted claims of his involvement in the Georgia election interference case, stating he has committed no crime.

What Happened: On Tuesday, The Hill reported that Eastman, alongside Trump and 18 others, is facing 41 charges in total in a racketeering case. Initiated by Fulton County, Georgia’s District Attorney Fani Willis, the case alleges an attempt to overturn Georgia’s election results to keep Trump in office.

In a Fox News interview, Eastman maintained his stance on allegations of election fraud, saying, “We did nothing wrong. We were challenging the election for what even Vice President [Mike] Pence described as serious allegations of fraud and numerous instances of officials violating state law."

The accused, among them Eastman, are alleged to have utilized deceptive voters in swing states to manipulate the 2020 election in Trump’s favor. However, there is insufficient substantial proof of extensive election fraud in the 2020 election.

Eastman also questioned the state Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act charges, daring the prosecution to present any communication that would support their theory of the case.

The former Trump attorney turned himself in at the Fulton County jail last week on the nine counts he is facing and was released on a $100,000 bond the same day. His arraignment is scheduled for next week.

Why It Matters: The current charges against Eastman and others mark another chapter in the ongoing legal drama surrounding the 2020 elections.

This isn’t the first run-in with the law for Eastman or Trump. Back in June 2023, Eastman was set to face disbarment proceedings in Los Angeles for his strategies devised to keep Trump in power after the 2020 election.

In August of the same year, Trump was indicted for a third time on charges related to the 2020 election. A few weeks later, Trump voluntarily surrendered to authorities at the Fulton County Jail facing 13 felony charges.
