Trump's 'Bomb Thrower' Lawyer Faces A 'Dagger To The Heart' Moment, Says Former Prosecutor

Former prosecutor Glenn Kirschner criticized Donald Trump‘s lawyer, John Lauro, for presenting what he perceives as baseless arguments in an unsuccessful bid to delay the former president’s federal election interference case trial.

What Happened: Kirschner, a former U.S. Army prosecutor and current MSNBC legal analyst, suggested that Lauro’s arguments seemed designed to appeal to Trump’s base, not the judge.

"He was a bomb thrower. It sounded like he was making arguments to Donald Trump's base, not to the judge."

Kirschner, who was present when the trial date was confirmed, shared Judge Tanya Chutkan‘s characterization of Lauro’s claim—that some cases were taking an extensive period to reach trial—as “misleading.”

Kirschner emphasized the gravity of such a description by a judge, stating, “When a judge tells you that you’ve put something in a legal filing that is ‘misleading,’ it’s kind of like a dagger to the heart.”

Why It Matters: This case relates to accusations of Trump’s alleged unlawful attempts to reverse his 2020 election loss to President Joe Biden. Trump’s request to postpone the trial to 2026 was previously denied by Judge Chutkan, who set the trial date for March 4.

The Republican frontrunner is scheduled to stand trial on multiple fronts: state criminal charges in both New York and Atlanta, as well as federal charges in both Florida and Washington, D.C.

The former president also faces two civil cases in New York, one accusing him of business fraud and the other for defamation allegations from a rape accuser. Those trials come with a long list of court dates that are bound to clash with other routine events that a typical presidential candidate might enjoy, including next week’s first Republican presidential primary debate.
