Tesla Inc. TSLA shared an intriguing story about the “Tesla village” in one of its largest markets, China, on Wednesday.

What Happened: The 4-minute video, although clearly an advertisement, delves into the tale of Cai Run, a native of Panzhijia, his Tesla, and the village itself. Panzhijia village in Yunnan province, where Cai Run resides, is often referred to as the “Tesla village.”

After years of working outside his village, Cai Run returned home to establish a rural hotel. Along with him, he brought his Tesla Model Y, and since then, he has influenced the purchase of all 31 Tesla cars in the village.

Despite initial skepticism due to the lack of charging infrastructure and challenging mountain roads, Cai’s decision to buy a Tesla proved beneficial as the vehicle’s popularity surged.

Tesla even set up a destination charging station in the village, personally approved by the company’s CEO, Elon Musk.

Multipurpose Tesla: Cai shares that on days when his hotel is full, his Model Y serves as accommodation for visiting tourists. Utilizing the camp mode, tourists enjoy spending the night under the starry skies inside the vehicle.

Originally posted by Tesla on its Weibo account in March of the previous year, the video showcases various roles the vehicles play in the village: from deliveries and makeshift stores to transportation for tourists, all within the scenic mountain surroundings.
