Disney Firefighters Who Backed Ron DeSantis Face Benefit Cuts By Company's New Board: Report

Walt Disney Co‘s DIS first responders are reconsidering their support for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis‘ plan to take over the Reedy Creek Improvement District after losing special benefits, according to a report by Business Insider.

Originally, the Reedy Creek Professional Firefighters Local 2117 union supported DeSantis’ plan. Yet, the union’s perspective shifted after the newly rebranded Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board, which now oversees the district, rescinded firefighters’ free passes to Disney parks and resorts.

“The removal of this benefit takes away, for some, their entire reason for working here,” said firefighter Pete Simon.

First responders told the Miami Times Online that their visits to the theme park have now become unaffordable.

Several firefighters addressed DeSantis’ new board at a recent meeting about the significance of the free passes for them and their families.

This change comes amidst DeSantis’ attempts to reconcile with Disney following a heated disagreement over the governor’s controversial education bill and the company’s subsequent legal action against his administration.
