Tesla Scraps These Lower-Cost Standard Range Models Just Weeks After Launch

Tesla Inc TSLA swiftly removed its recently introduced standard range Model S and X versions from its website, just weeks after their U.S. debut.

These variants, priced $10,000 lower than the long-range models, offered reduced range and slower 0-60 mph acceleration. 

Yet, Tesla has now discontinued them on its website, exclusively showcasing the long-range and plaid versions.

Notably, Tesla simultaneously reduced prices by up to 19% on the remaining models, making the Model X eligible for a $7,500 EV tax credit. The updated pricing is as follows:

• Model S dual motor all-wheel drive: $74,990
• Model S Plaid tri-motor AWD: $89,990
• Model X dual-motor AWD: $79,990
• Model X Plaid tri-motor AWD: $89,990

This adjustment reflects Tesla’s strategy to streamline its offerings and maximize affordability for customers.
