Top officials of a super PAC supporting Florida Governor Ron DeSantis have reportedly asked for an additional $50 million from donors, according to an audio leak obtained by CNN published on Thursday.
The request was made to wealthy Republicans gathered in Milwaukee ahead of the first GOP presidential primary debate. The super PAC, dubbed “Never Back Down,” hopes to secure the sum over the following four months.
“We just need your help getting $50 million more by the end of the year and $100 million more by the end of March,” CEO Chris Jankowski is heard saying on the tape.
The audio also reveals the super PAC’s campaign strategies, including their aim to secure over 100,000 Iowan supporters for DeSantis, and their reliance on the “DeSantis index,” an internal metric that gauges the chances of someone supporting the governor.

The audio leak has caught the attention of campaign finance watchdogs. The PAC, which was initially largely funded by $82.5 million transferred from DeSantis’ state political committee, has assumed traditional campaign responsibilities.
The fundraising lunch, held at a DoubleTree hotel, was attended by approximately 60 donors, including Dallas businessman Roy Bailey, former co-chair of Donald Trump campaign's finance committee.
A fundraising goal of $50 million by the end of the year would surpass the $47 million the super PAC raised on its own between its March launch and the end of June.
