Amazon's One Medical CEO Departs Amid Significant Leadership Shift

The transition will likely take place over the coming months. Amazon acquired One Medical in 2022 after the closure of its telehealth experiment, Amazon Care.

The e-commerce giant ventured into healthcare with acquisitions like PillPack in 2018 and later launched Amazon Clinic, a virtual health service

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy emphasized the potential growth of healthcare as a significant area for the company, even as Amazon undertook cost-cutting measures.

Several executives from acquired companies, including Twitch, PillPack, and Ring, have departed. TJ Parker and Elliot Cohen, the co-founders of prescription drug startup PillPack, quit in 2022.

Founded in 2007, One Medical offers high-end primary care across multiple cities.

The Federal Trade Commission approved Amazon's acquisition of One Medical in February 2023, with a caution about consumer health data handling.

Amazon remained determined in its healthcare push amid opposition and obstacles. In 2023, Amazon launched an affordable healthcare subscription service for uninsured consumers and streamlined pharmacy discounts for diabetes patients.

The conglomerate let go of 27,000 jobs and remains engaged in the organizational restructuring of its various divisions, including grocery and logistics, while integrating artificial intelligence technology in every division.

Price Action: AMZN shares traded higher by 0.38% at $138.54 premarket on the last check Friday.
