Kevin McCarthy Says No Joe Biden Impeachment Inquiry Without House Vote: 'American People Deserve To Be Heard'

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said President Joe Biden‘s impeachment inquiry proceedings will only advance with the consent of a complete House vote.

What Happened: Speaker McCarthy on Friday quelled speculations about the possibility of Republicans advancing the impeachment inquiry without a full House vote.

"To open an impeachment inquiry is a serious matter, and House Republicans would not take it lightly or use it for political purposes. The American people deserve to be heard on this matter through their elected representatives," McCarthy told Breitbart News.

"That's why, if we move forward with an impeachment inquiry, it would occur through a vote on the floor of the People's House and not through a declaration by one person."

This announcement came following a CNN report suggesting that Republicans were considering initiating an impeachment inquiry without a House vote. Despite some moderate members expressing doubts due to a lack of evidence, McCarthy views an impeachment inquiry as a reasonable next step in the House GOP's investigations into President Biden and his family's overseas business dealings.

Why It Matters: A full House vote, consistent with McCarthy’s 2019 stance, would exemplify a full conference agreement and strengthen the legal argument for impeachment. However, gaining majority support for the impeachment inquiry vote in the chamber could be challenging, given the slight House majority and anticipated unanimous opposition from House Democrats.

McCarthy’s announcement follows a wave of growing momentum towards an impeachment inquiry against President Biden. Earlier, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) had expressed frustration over Republicans’ delay in advocating for an investigation into the president. She had urged her Republican counterparts to launch the inquiry.

Meanwhile, CNN's political director, David Chalian, suggested that the GOP's impeachment inquiry might boost President Biden’s 2024 reelection campaign by igniting the enthusiasm of Biden supporters.
