The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) CEO Jonathan Greenblatt dismissed Elon Musk‘s claims as a “threat of a frivolous lawsuit,” CNBC reported.
"It is flat out dangerous and deeply irresponsible. We need responsible leaders to lead, to stop inflaming hatred and to step back from the brink before it's too late,” Greenblatt stated.
The statement appeared after Musk hinted at a possible defamation lawsuit against ADL accusing it of damaging his business through false allegations of anti-Semitism.
Musk’s allegations follow a 60% drop in the platform’s advertising revenue, which he claims is a result of the ADL’s pressure on advertisers. He warned that the platform would have “no choice but to file a defamation lawsuit” if the pressure continues.

X, formerly known as Twitter, has been under scrutiny since Musk’s acquisition last fall. Several civil rights groups have documented a rise in hate speech and other inflammatory posts on the platform.
Recently, X filed a lawsuit against the Center for Countering Digital Hate, accusing the nonprofit of falsely claiming the platform is overwhelmed with harmful content. These allegations have reportedly led to a drop in advertiser support.
Last week, Greenblatt had a “productive conversation” with newly appointed X CEO Linda Yaccarino about effectively addressing hate on the platform. After the conversation, a #BanTheADL campaign began trending on X.
Musk engaged with some of the anti-ADL posts, which Greenblatt described as “profoundly disturbing.” X has not yet commented on the situation.
