The upcoming G20 Summit scheduled at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi on September 9-10 will see global leaders being served meals on silver and gold-plated utensils, in a bid to showcase India’s rich cultural heritage.

As per media reports, around 15,000 pieces of silverware have been crafted by over 200 artisans for this grand event. These were supplied by Jaipur-based metalware firm Iris Jaipur, which held a preview of the traditional cutlery on Tuesday.

The firm revealed that most of the utensils have a steel or brass base with a silver coating, while some have gold plating for serving welcome drinks. They are characterized by meticulous detailing, beaded borders, and a blend of semi-machined hand craftsmanship with modern casting techniques, adding a touch of sophistication to the event.

Luxury hotels in the national capital have been asked to provide this silver and gold-plated cutlery for serving the G20 delegates, including US President Joe Biden and UK PM Rishi Sunak. The convention center catering is being managed by ITC, with food that will showcase regional cuisine, street food, and millet.
