Tesla Rolls Out 'Optimized' 3rd-Gen Powerwall As Musk Touts 'Uninterruptible Power Supply' For Most Homes

EV giant Tesla Inc TSLA has launched the third generation of its residential energy storage product Powerwall.

What Happened: A Tesla Motors Club member from Southern California said on Thursday that it had been installed at his home. The installer reportedly told the member that it was the third Powerwall 3 installation he had done so far.

Responding to a user who flagged this on X, formerly Twitter, CEO Elon Musk said that the third-generation Powerwall is optimized for ease of installation and high power.

“A single Powerwall can serve as an uninterruptible power supply for most homes,” Musk said. “This is a big deal for ensuring that the lights stay on and you can power all your devices in the event of a power outage.”

The Powerwall is a compact, integrated battery system from Tesla that stores solar energy for backup, acting as a guard against power outages or grid failures. One can also monitor and control the system with the Tesla app.

Musk has previously said that a Powerwall can help homes during power cuts, even in high altitudes, and keep you free of the grid for a year.
