Apple Released A New $29 Product, But It Didn't Make It To The Presentation

Apple Inc
AAPL just wrapped up its highly anticipated Wonderlust event, announcing the latest iPhone 15 range, the Apple Watch Series 9, and the Apple Watch Ultra. But there’s a product it did not reveal during the presentation but made its way to its website, and it’s up for sale before anything else.

What happened: Apple has listed a new USB-C to Lightning Adapter for $29 on its online store. It comes right after the new iPhones switched to USB Type-C ports for charging and data transfers.

The design team at Apple, who had championed the Lightning port as not just functionality but an emblem of brand identity, were faced with an EU directive pushing for uniformity. The decision is official — the iPhone 15 series now sports the USB Type-C port.

Yet, Apple, known for its ingenious business strategies, recognized an opportunity. A massive user base is already entrenched in the Lightning ecosystem. What would become of their existing chargers, headphones, and other accessories?

Thus, with a strategic move that straddles the line between customer support and revenue generation, Apple introduced the Lightening to USB Type-C connector. Interestingly, this debut was absent from the grandeur of their launch presentation.
