Ford Unveils Next-Gen F-150 As CEO Farley Touts 'Most Connected And Smartest' Model

Ford Motor Co F unveiled its new tech-packed F-150 on Tuesday, the same day Apple Inc unveiled its new iPhones.

What Happened: The new 2024 Ford F-150 has new looks, a standard 12-inch main touchscreen, a new optional pro access tailgate with a door that can either swing open like a fridge or drop down and more.

With a maximum available towing capacity of 13,500 pounds and a payload of 2,455 pounds, the new trucks will be available starting in early 2024. It will also have 10 standard driver assist features including the latest versions of Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping System, and Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert.

“The new Ford F-150 is better than ever! Pro Power Onboard. Hybrid power and efficiency. Incredible tech. It’s the most connected and smartest F-150 to date,” Ford CEO Jim Farley said.

More Hybrid F-150: As of Tuesday, hybrids accounted for 10% of all F-150 trucks sold. For 2024, Ford plans to double the mix of hybrid trucks manufactured.

"We're making hybrid more accessible to our customers, giving them the power of choice by offering it at the same price as the 3.5-liter EcoBoost. This is the latest example of Ford democratizing technology for all truck customers,” Andrew Frick, vice president, Sales and Trucks, Ford Blue said.

Why It Matters: The Ford F-series, of which the F-150 is a part, has been America’s best-selling truck for 46 years. For 41 years, it has also been America’s best-selling vehicle.

“If F-series was a Fortune 500 company, it alone would be larger than Visa, Starbucks or Netflix,” Frick said. The F-series truck is also the second most popular consumer product in the U.S. after the Apple iPhone.
