Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, once fainted during a Moscow meeting after consuming several vodka shots, as revealed in a newly released biography by Walter Isaacson, Business Insider reported
The incident occurred prior to SpaceX’s establishment in 2002 when Musk was attempting to initiate a project termed “Mars Oasis” aimed at stimulating public interest in space exploration.
Musk, along with rocket engineer Jim Cantrell and Founder Institute CEO Adeo Ressi, was in Russia to negotiate a deal for rockets. However, a late-night party prior to the meeting left Musk “ragged.” The meeting was held in a Moscow restaurant which further involved generous amounts of vodka.
Musk reportedly passed out, his head hitting the table, as a result of the alcohol consumption. Despite his previous statements of disliking alcohol’s effects, Musk had been known to express a preference for red wine.
The trip to Russia ended without a successful deal, with Musk returning home in early 2002. The SpaceX CEO believed he had secured two Dnepr rockets for $18 million, only to discover the sellers wanted $18 million each, escalating to $21 million each during negotiations.
SpaceX and Elon Musk have not yet commented on this incident revealed in Isaacson’s biography.
