Get Apple Watch Series 9's Double Tap Gesture On Older Apple Watches: Here's How

One of the highlights of the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 is a handy new gesture called Double Tap. But what if we told you that this feature is already available on Apple Inc.'s AAPL older smartwatches? Yes, that's right.

What Happened: Apple announced its latest smartwatches, the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2, with a new Double Tap gesture for quickly managing calls and more.

However, it's old wine in a new bottle, and you don't have to upgrade to the new Apple watches if you already have an older one.

How To Use Double Tap Gesture On Apple Watch Series 8 And Older

You can use the Double Tap gesture on older Apple Watch models, going back all the way to the Apple Watch Series 4. The feature is hidden in accessibility settings and lets you assign gestures like pinch and clench to perform different actions.

It is worth noting that this might not be as polished as the new Double Tap gesture on the Watch 9 and Ultra 2, but it works quite well.

Apple calls it AssistiveTouch, and here's how you can use it:

  • Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch.
  • Go to Accessibility > AssistiveTouch, then turn on AssistiveTouch.
  • Tap Hand Gestures, then turn on Hand Gestures.

With the AssistiveTouch setup done, here's how you can assign these gestures for different actions:

  • Pinch and Double Pinch.
  • Clench and Double Clench.

You can choose from several options for each gesture, so plenty of room is available for customization.
