Donald Trump Reacts To Joe Biden's Impeachment Inquiry: 'They Did It To Me...Perhaps Being Done To Them'

Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday reacted to the recent impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden.

What Happened: Trump put forward the idea that an impeachment inquiry against Biden by House Republicans could be a form of retaliation for his impeachment, Politico reported.

Trump, during a SiriusXM radio interview with Megyn Kelly, a former Fox and NBC host, said, “They did it to me… and had they not done it to me … perhaps you wouldn’t have it being done to them."

Trump referred to the two impeachment trials he faced, one for alleged power abuse and obstruction of Congress and another for “incitement of insurrection” after the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. He was acquitted in both instances.

Trump also hinted at the GOP potentially indicting Biden. He discussed his legal challenges, referring to them as “fake indictments.”

He suggested that Republicans might follow the same path when they are in power. “And it’s a shame when that happens. I’m not in favor of that, but that’s what’s going to happen because that’s human nature," he added.

Why It Matters: Earlier this week, Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced plans to initiate an impeachment inquiry into Biden over bribery and corruption allegations. However, some Republicans are skeptical about the concrete evidence tying Biden to funds his son, Hunter, received from Ukraine and China.

Despite Trump’s assertions, experts have claimed that the evidence against Biden is the weakest in the history of US impeachment inquiries. A constitutional scholar, Philip Bobbitt, stated, "I honestly don't know that there is any evidence tying the president to corrupt activities when he was vice president or now."

Earlier reports also suggested that Trump has quietly advised the House GOP on Biden's impeachment inquiry, including talks with Conference Chair Elise Stefanik.
