Meta's Next-Gen Ray-Ban Smart Glasses Near Launch? Here's What FCC Listing Suggests

A new pair of smart glasses jointly developed by Meta Platforms Inc. META and Ray-Ban‘s parent company Luxottica Group appears to have received clearance from the Federal Communications Commission, or FCC, hinting at a possible imminent release.

What Happened: The FCC database now lists a Luxottica-branded smart glasses product, reported The Verge. Given that previous reports have suggested a second-generation Ray-Ban Stories smart glasses are in the works, this FCC listing is believed to be for the new device.

The original Ray-Ban Stories smart glasses included features such as photo and video capture, along with microphones and speakers for audio capture and playback. However, they didn’t see much user adoption, with less than 10% of buyers using them regularly each month.

Despite this, Meta seems undeterred and is pushing ahead with the second generation. Enhancements to the new smart glasses are said to include improved battery life, better cameras, and the ability to live-stream to Facebook and Instagram. An interesting addition is the ability to hear comments from viewers during live streams via the built-in headphones.

Meta is yet to comment on these developments. The company’s upcoming Connect conference on Sept. 27-28 might provide further information on the new smart glasses.
