Trump Insists Claim Of 'Rigged' 2020 Election Was His Own Decision: 'I Saw What Happened'

In a recent revelation, Former U.S. President, Donald Trump, asserted that the assertion of the 2020 presidential election being rigged was his personal decision, defying suggestions from his legal team and campaign members.

What Happened: According to a report by Politico, which cited NBC News program “Meet The Press,” Trump expressed a lack of respect for those who declared his loss in the 2020 election against Joe Biden. Instead, he adhered to the hypothesis that the polls were manipulated. Presently leading the GOP presidential primary, Trump is under indictment for his attempts to reverse the 2020 election results.

Trump’s campaign faced multiple lawsuit losses challenging the 2020 election outcome, with their baseless conspiracy theories dismissed. When questioned about his decision to follow outside lawyers propagating “crazy theories”, Trump stated, “You know who I listen to? Myself. I saw what happened. I watched that election, and I thought the election was over at 10 o'clock in the evening,” reaffirming his claim on the rigged election was his own choice.

Why It Matters: This revelation underscores the ongoing controversy surrounding Trump’s handling of the 2020 election results.

It was reported earlier that Trump ignored counsel from the White House and campaigning attorneys because he didn’t respect them as lawyers. He said that those lawyers turned out to be “Republicans in name only.”

Trump had voluntarily surrendered at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, Georgia, facing his fourth indictment related to attempts to reverse Georgia’s 2020 election results. Trump is the first former U.S. president to face criminal charges.

In response to the charges, Trump’s legal team filed several motions seeking to dismiss the accusations, which were linked to alleged efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss in Georgia.

Amid these legal battles, Trump disclosed that he had considered pardoning himself during the final days of his presidency, but chose not to.
