Nancy Pelosi, the former House Speaker, has refuted accusations made by former President Donald Trump, who held her responsible for the Jan. 6 Capitol attack.
Pelosi defended herself during an interview on “The Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart” on MSNBC, The Hill reported.
Pelosi said, “He knows he's responsible for that, so he projects it onto others,” countering Trump’s assertions. Pelosi condemned Trump’s claim that she rejected military assistance on the day of the incident.
The former president told NBC's “Meet the Press” host Kristen Welker that “Nancy Pelosi was in charge of security. She turned down 10,000 soldiers. If she didn't turn down the soldiers, you wouldn't have had Jan. 6.”
“Capitol police said that he wanted it, and Nancy Pelosi wouldn’t accept it. She's responsible for Jan. 6,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Democrat leader emphasized that she and Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) had repeatedly pleaded for troop deployment.
“These Trumpites were attacking the Capitol, fighting the police, threatening my life and the life of the vice president … there is a sickness here, and there has to be an intervention,” Pelosi stated.
She also revealed her intention to run for another term in the House, citing that there is a need of “intervention” to “fight for our democracy, which is at stake if he [Trump] is on the ballot.”
