Kevin McCarthy Says House Republicans Will Subpoena Hunter Biden At Appropriate Time: 'We Only Follow Facts'

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.)-led House Republicans are poised to subpoena Hunter Biden as part of their ongoing investigation into President Joe Biden and his son’s foreign business activities.

What Happened: The Speaker on Sunday assured that Hunter Biden would be subpoenaed “at the appropriate time,” stressing that the move would be based on facts, not external pressure.

"Do you do it because television wants it, or do you do it around the facts and the timing when [House Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.)]…I think we should have the bank statements to actually know, where did the money go? So, you would know the questions to ask Hunter Biden, said McCarthy during the Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.”

McCarthy is leading a concerted effort to launch an impeachment inquiry into President Biden. Republicans are probing the Biden family’s foreign business connections, specifically Hunter Biden’s tenure on the board of a Ukrainian energy company during his father’s vice presidency.

Why It Matters: McCarthy, along with the House Oversight and Accountability Chairman Comer, have been spearheading these investigations. In a recent revelation, Comer claimed to have emails that suggest then-Vice President Biden used pseudonyms in communications with Hunter Biden or his business associates.

The speaker, in his announcement last week, said House Republicans "uncovered serious and credible allegations into President Biden's conduct — a culture of corruption."

"The one thing [the] American public has to understand is, there's a strategy behind everything," McCarthy said.

"We only follow facts."

"To…just to subpoena Hunter Biden because you want to fundraise or you want to do something, that's not how we're going to run an investigation," the speaker said.

When asked about plans to subpoena other Biden family members, McCarthy indicated the desire to review bank statements before summoning them for testimony.
