Former U.S. President Donald Trump, in a recent interview, said his wife, Melania Trump, is unconcerned about her absence from Vogue’s cover during their time in the White House.
What Happened: Trump, in a chat with former Fox News journalist and current SiriusXM host Megyn Kelly, said the former first lady “doesn’t care” about not being featured on the popular fashion magazine’s cover.
Trump, highlighting Melania’s popularity, emphasized that she had already appeared on Vogue’s cover before their presidency. “As you know, she was a very popular first lady. I mean, I go out to rallies and they have pictures of Melania with ‘We love our first lady’ with so many posters.”

Kelly questioned Trump why Karine Jean-Pierre, the Biden White House press secretary, received a Vogue feature while Melania was overlooked during her tenure. “Can you believe it? She was on the cover of Vogue before she met me,” the former president said in response.
“But once I said I’m running for president, that was, that was the end of the cover. And it’s so sad. But she doesn’t care.”

However, Trump reiterated that Melania was unbothered by this, saying, “She’s been on the cover of the magazines for a long time, and she was on the cover of Vogue before. And she was actually very friendly with [Vogue editor] Anna Wintour. But once I ran for politics, that was the end of that. And that’s OK.”
Why It Matters: The former first lady’s absence from Vogue’s cover has been a topic of debate, with critics citing it as an example of political bias in the media. A mere five months into Joe Biden’s presidency, the president himself was featured on Vogue’s cover. It’s not just the Commander-in-Chief who garnered such attention, even before her official inauguration, Vice President Kamala Harris also claimed her spot on these glossy pages of the magazine.
Melania Trump had last year accused Vogue of bias for not including her on its cover during her four years as first lady. "It was their decision and I had much more important things to do, and I did in the White House, than being on the cover of Vogue," Melania said during an interview on Fox and Friends.
