Gavin Newsom Brushes Off Concerns About Joe Biden's Age: 'I Want A Seasoned Pro'

California Governor Gavin Newsom has come forward to back President Joe Biden amid age-related apprehensions, describing him as a “seasoned pro.”

What Happened: Newsom, during an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash, came out in strong support of Biden as poll showed worries about the president’s age and his possibility of reelection in 2024.

Newsom said Biden is a “seasoned pro” who “knows how to get things done” and lauded the accomplishments of the current administration.

"I want a seasoned pro that knows how to get things done," he said.

"I'm a little old fashioned. I want a guy who produces results and the results are in, it's been a masterclass."

"There's simply no administration in my lifetime that's been more effective producing more substantive results and we haven't even started the campaign," he added.

The Governor also endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the ideal running mate for Biden in the 2024 ticket. "Of course she is," Newsom said when asked if Harris is the best person to be on the ticket with Biden in 2024.

He also put to rest any rumors about his own presidential run in 2024, asserting he is not “that guy.”

Why It Matters: Newsom’s endorsement of Biden comes as the president faces increased scrutiny over his age and potential for reelection.

A CBS News/YouGov poll recently indicated that only approximately one-third of U.S. registered voters believe Biden would finish a second term if reelected. Biden, who is currently 80, is the oldest U.S. president and would be 86 at the end of a second term if reelected in 2024.

Newsom has been a staunch defender of Biden in the past, even dismissing House GOP’s impeachment inquiry into the president as a “student government” effort.

The California Governor has also previously criticized House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s pursuit of impeaching President Biden, urging him to focus on pressing issues in his own district.
