Tesla Inc TSLA on Tuesday offered its customers a gentle reminder to transfer their FSD capability from their old vehicle to their new purchase.
What Happened: “Reminder that you can transfer Full Self-Driving (FSD) capability to your new Tesla when taking delivery by Sept 30,” Tesla wrote on X.
The transferability option was offered by Tesla as a one-time opportunity solely for the third quarter, meaning it won’t be possible after Sept. 30.
The option is aimed at allowing existing customers to transfer their FSD to their new Tesla vehicle instead of being locked into an existing car due to the price of FSD. FSD capability is presently priced at $12,000, after the 20% price cut from earlier this month.
Why It Matters: Customers who take delivery of their new Tesla starting from July 20 till September 30 may qualify for transferring their FSD capability from their old vehicle to the new one, Tesla explains on its website.
Users who want FSD capability on both their old and new Teslas will have to purchase it fresh for their new vehicle. Once removed from the old vehicle, it cannot be reversed either, the website adds.
