Trump Pledges To Reinstate And Extend Controversial Travel Ban If Re-Elected In 2024

Former President Donald Trump has pledged to reintroduce and extend a controversial travel ban that targets several predominantly Muslim countries if he is re-elected, The Hill reported.

Trump made this vow on Wednesday at a rally in Dubuque, Iowa, where he detailed his plans for curbing immigration if he secures a second term in the White House in 2024.

If re-elected, Trump plans to bring back the travel ban and “expand it even further to keep Radical Islamic Terrorists out of our country.”

The former president also promised to execute the “largest domestic deportation operation in American History,” using the Alien Enemies Act, a 1798 law that permits the deportation of any immigrant from a nation at war with the U.S.

Trump’s controversial travel ban, which faced numerous legal challenges, was eventually upheld by the Supreme Court in 2018. It affected five countries with majority-Muslim populations — Iran, Syria, Yemen, Libya and Somalia — as well as North Korea and Venezuela.

Trump plans to use this law to expel “all known or suspected gang members, drug dealers or cartel members from the United States.”

He also aims to redirect resources of federal law enforcement agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), to focus on immigration enforcement.
