Jamie Raskin Slams GOP's 'Stupid' Push for Biden Impeachment: 'They Don't Have A Shred Of Evidence'

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) shared his views on the Republican Party’s push for Joe Biden‘s impeachment during a town hall event organized by the School of Communication and Kennedy Political Union.

What Happened: Raskin dismissed House Speaker Kevin McCarthy's announcement of a potential impeachment inquiry into President Biden as “stupid,” The Eagle reported.

He insisted there was no evidence linking President Biden to any criminal wrongdoing after seven months of investigation.

"It's stupid," Raskin said.

"The constitutional standard for impeachment is treason, bribery, and other high crimes and misdemeanors. And after seven months of investigation in the Oversight Committee, or the Judiciary Committee, by the Weaponization Committee, they don't have a shred of evidence linking President Biden to any criminal wrongdoing."

Raskin has served as the lead impeachment manager in former president Donald Trump's second impeachment trial and was involved in the House of Representatives committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection.

Raskin expressed his disappointment with the current state of the Republican Party. He highlighted the party’s historical progressive values and expressed concern for the future of democracy.

Why It Matters: Last week, the Republican House speaker announced plans to initiate an impeachment inquiry into Biden over bribery and corruption allegations. However, some Republicans are skeptical about the concrete evidence tying Biden to funds his son, Hunter, received from Ukraine and China.

Experts have claimed that the evidence against Biden is the weakest in the history of U.S. impeachment inquiries. A constitutional scholar, Philip Bobbitt, stated, “I honestly don’t know that there is any evidence tying the president to corrupt activities when he was vice president or now.”

Earlier reports also suggested that Trump has quietly advised the House GOP on Biden’s impeachment inquiry, including talks with Conference Chair Elise Stefanik.
