Microsoft Corp MSFT made an announcement Thursday regarding broad availability of its new artificial intelligence companion, Copilot. The tech stock popped in an apparent reaction to the AI news.
Microsoft's AI Companion: Microsoft is holding its 2023 Surface and AI event Thursday. CEO Satya Nadella announced the company's everyday AI companion will be available for anyone using Windows 11 starting next week, per CNBC.
On Sept. 26, Copilot will be included in a free update for Windows 11 users. The AI product is being built on top of Bing chat and can be accessed by voice or click. It sits in the background, out of the way when not being used.
Copilot will be incorporated in everything from Outlook email, Shopping and Paint to a user's mobile phone.
Microsoft initially announced plans for Copilot for Microsoft 365 earlier this year.
"It combines the power of large language models (LLMs) with your data in the Microsoft Graph and the Microsoft 365 apps to turn your words into the most powerful productivity tool on the planet," the company said in a press release.
Microsoft is expected to release several new products at its launch event, including multiple Surface devices and a variety of AI features across its ecosystem.
