GOP Presidential Candidate Takes Aim At Trump For 'Reckless Spending' In New Hampshire: 'He's Not The Only Culprit'

GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley has launched her economic blueprint, coined the “Freedom Plan,” and took the opportunity to criticize Donald Trump‘s “reckless spending” habits.

What Happened: The former South Carolina governor voiced her criticism during a New Hampshire speech, where she held Trump, President Joe Biden, and ex-President Barack Obama accountable for the growing national debt, asserting that these three leaders have added more to the debt than the preceding 42 presidents, Politico reported.

"Joe Biden is proving reckless spending is the road to socialism. But he's not the only culprit," She said.

"Joe Biden, Donald Trump and Barack Obama added more to our national debt than the previous 42 presidents combined."

In her ‘Freedom Plan’, Haley suggests eliminating the federal gas tax, decreasing income tax rates, making small-business tax relief constant, and reducing green energy subsidies. She also intends to return spending to pre-pandemic levels and introduce zero-based budgeting.

Why It Matters: Haley’s denouncement of Trump occurs just before the upcoming GOP primary debate. Even though Trump remains ahead in the primary, recent polls show an increasing support for Haley.

A new poll conducted by CNN/University of New Hampshire indicates similar levels of support for Haley, biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in the initial primary state.

Haley’s criticism of Trump is not her first public reproach of the former President. She earlier also labeled Trump as "weak in the knees" over his Ukraine policy.
