Even as President Joe Biden leads in the Democratic presidential primary race, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) raised the possibility of Biden being replaced as the party's candidate in the 2024 general election.

What Happened: The odds of Biden not being the Democrat's nominee in 2024 have risen significantly, maybe by as much as 20% or 30%, said Cruz in an episode of the "Verdict With Ted Cruz" podcast aired on Monday.

Democrats, according to the senator, are getting nervous about his age, as polling numbers suggest two-thirds of Americans think that Biden is too old to be president. His party is also nervous about potential evidence of corruption, especially with the president’s son Hunter Biden being indicted, he said.

“I believe there is now a real possibility Joe Biden is not the Democrat nominee in 2024,” Cruz said.

What's Next: There are two ways this could potentially play out, Cruz said, adding that one way is that pressure could ratchet up internally within the Democrat Party to the point that Biden ends up backing out of the race.

If enough people in power ask for Biden to step aside, there is the possibility that president comes out and says he has accomplished his mission and is ready to ride off into the sunset, the senator said.

Another factor fueling the disgruntlement against Biden is the low approval Vice President Kamala Harris has received, he added.

Cruz said he does not expect Democrats to dump Harris because he thinks they see African American women as an essential voting bloc.

If Biden pulls out, the top four Democrats who could step in are Harris, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass), Cruz said. Of them, Warren would most likely get the Democratic nomination due to her “hard left angry Marxist” image, he added.

Dark Horse: The senator also raised the possibility of Democrats nominating an alternative candidate at the their national convention in Chicago in August 2024.

The most troubling scenario would be if “kingmakers jettison Joe Biden and parachute in Michelle Obama,” Cruz said. “I view this as a very serious danger,” he added.

Barack Obama is already running the Biden Administration, I think he is already the puppet master behind this Biden White House,” Cruz said. This, he said, “ought to scare the hell out of anyone who is unhappy about the direction this country is going and doesn’t want us to go even crazier in an even worse direction.”
