Chris Christie Criticizes Bob Menendez But Rules Out Senate Run Against Him

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has publicly criticized Sen. Bob Menendez‘s actions but has decisively ruled out running for Senate against him, Politico reported.

Christie strongly condemned Menendez after the latter was indicted on bribery charges last week. The charges against Menendez include accepting bribes in cash, gold bars, a Mercedes-Benz C-300 convertible and home mortgage payments in exchange for using his position to benefit businesspeople and the Egyptian government between 2018 and 2022.

Menendez, a Democrat, has called these charges “baseless allegations” and claims the prosecutors have misrepresented the normal work of a Congressional office. Many New Jersey Democrats, including Governor Phil Murphy, have called for his resignation.

Christie, who is running for the GOP presidential nomination, has also called for Menendez’s resignation. Despite this, when asked by “Meet the Press” host Kristen Welker on Sunday, Christie categorically ruled out a Senate run against Menendez.

Christie stated, “If I didn't appoint myself to the United States Senate, the easiest way to get there, I sure as heck am not going to run for it.”
