Elon Musk really doesn't like the Twitter bird, and he has now set his sights on the birdhouse icon, symbolically the Twitter bird's home.
What Happened: Responding to Dogecoin DOGE/USD designer, Musk said the birdhouse will be retired from X (formerly Twitter) months after he removed the Twitter bird branding.
"We will," Musk said in response to the Dogecoin designer's request to remove the birdhouse that represents the ‘Home' tab on X.
Instead, the letter ‘X', which is the social media platform's new identity, will likely replace the Twitter birdhouse.
It's also not a far-fetched idea – the post-Musk rebranding of Twitter as X has seen X replace the Twitter bird everywhere across the website.
However, the main ‘X' icon could be a little confusing, and the proposed ‘X' home icon will be just below each other, going by the current placement on X's homepage, which could annoy or confuse some people.
Why It Matters: Twitter's bird branding has been subtle and gained massive brand recognition worldwide. Not just the name "Twitter" but the word "tweet" and the Twitter bird branding had become iconic, being used both formally and informally in conversations, emails, and more.
However, Musk eliminated it and threw it all out earlier this year, replacing the iconic bird on the website and the company's headquarters. Musk was even involved in a controversy for the blindingly bright ‘X' icon atop the company's headquarters instead.
Explaining the reason behind the rebranding, Musk said X now does more than just 140-character posts – this includes in-line multimedia, hours-long videos, and more.
The Twitter birdhouse is likely one of the last remnants of an iconic brand, and now that Musk is aware of it, it's time to bid it adieu.
