Former president Donald Trump's niece Mary Trump lamented the lack of initiatives from “corporate media” to call out her uncle’s lies.
What Happened: "Politicians tell white lies and half-truths when the actual truth risks offending special-interest groups," Mary Trump said in a substack post on Monday, referring to the stance of lawmakers on gun laws.
The ex-president's niece also repeated her recent assertion that the corporate media remain stubbornly unwilling to call Donald Trump on his biggest lies about the Presidential Records Act, the Jan. 6 insurrection, and the results of the 2020 presidential election.
“These lies and the Republican Party's willingness to embrace and disseminate them, pose the greatest threat to our democracy in modern history,” she said.
The disinformation about the presidential power could set a bad precedence for future presidents, who might have no qualms about over-stepping authority and illicitly grabbing more power, Mary Trump said.
“If the media won't hold Donald's feet to the fire over his consequential and potentially disastrous lies, the least they could do is flag the smaller ones,” the host of the “Mary Trump Show” podcast said.
“The media can't let all of Donald's transgressions get folded into what they think most people already know or believe about him,” she added.
Why It's Important: Mary Trump has been very vocal about the media giving her uncle the platform to ply his lies. In an earlier post, she warned that the media's kid glove treatment could get Donald Trump a second term in the White House.
Mary Trump also called out her uncle’s lies he said in a recent interview with NBC, listing them one by one. He needs to be stopped at the first lie, she said, adding that her uncle is now left with the only option of spreading disinformation.
"The only way to stop him is to refuse to allow it," the psychologist said.
