Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau addressed Canadian House Speaker Anthony Rota’s controversial move to invite a former Nazi military unit member to a speech by Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This move has been broadly condemned by opposition parties and has sparked international controversy, with many asking for Rota to resign, Business Insider reported.
Rota, despite issuing a written apology, has not resigned. Trudeau termed the incident “extremely upsetting” and “deeply embarrassing” to the Parliament of Canada and all Canadians.

Yaroslav Hunka, the invited ex-Nazi, received a standing ovation during Zelenskyy’s visit on Friday. Criticism has grown both domestically and internationally, including from the Kremlin, which labeled the incident “outrageous”.
The Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies condemned the move, stating that the division Hunka fought for was “responsible for the mass murder of innocent civilians.”
Despite the backlash, Rota refused to step down on Monday, maintaining that he alone was responsible for the decision to invite and recognize Hunka.
