Happy Birthday, Google! Search Engine Giant Turns Quarter Century Old, Marks It with This Special Doodle

Alphabet Inc. GOOG GOOGL celebrates Google’s 25th birthday with a special Doodle and a surprise.

What Happened: On Wednesday, Google is celebrating its 25th birthday with a special Google Doodle that reflects the company’s journey from its early days to its current global presence.

There’s also a surprise for users who search for its birthday-related queries.

Spoiler Alert: Your screen will be showered with some digital confetti.

CEO Sundar Pichai previously highlighted the significance of Search in the company’s mission, stating, “Search remains the cornerstone of our mission, representing our most ambitious endeavor with numerous opportunities ahead.”

Pichai also marked the occasion with a post on X, formerly Twitter thanking “everyone who uses our products and challenges us to keep innovating.”

Trip Down The Memory Lane: In 1998, two doctoral students at Stanford UniversitySergey Brin and Larry Page, joined forces with a shared vision: to make the World Wide Web more accessible.

From the confines of their dorm rooms, they worked on a prototype for a superior search engine, a project that would revolutionize the digital landscape in the coming decades.

Google’s first office, a rented garage, became the company’s birthplace on Sept. 27, 1998.

“Much has changed since 1998 — including our logo as seen in today’s Doodle — but the mission has remained the same: to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful,” the company said on its B-Day.

Why It’s Important: Google’s impact on billions of lives across the globe is undeniable. Users turn to Google not only for answers to questions but also for connecting, working, playing, and so much more.

Throughout its 25-year history, Google’s responsiveness to user needs has driven innovation. Google Images, for example, emerged in response to users’ quest for images, sparking a hunt for Jennifer Lopez’s iconic Grammy dress in 2000.

For the unversed, Google Chrome also turned 15 this month. Earlier this month, the company unveiled some exciting updates, including a redesign, advanced AI integration, and enhanced security measures.
