Barry Diller Says An 'Aardvark' Could Beat Trump In 2024 Presidential Election, Biden Shouldn't Run Again

Zinger Key Points
  • Barry Diller says he would be shocked if Donald Trump wins the 2024 election.
  • "I'd like some new talent in the game," Diller says.

Media mogul Barry Diller doesn't want to see former President Donald Trump or current President Joe Biden run again in 2024, but polls suggest we may get a rematch of the 2020 election next year

What Happened: Tuesday on CNBC's "Squawk Box," Diller shared his thoughts on the frontrunners for the upcoming presidential election.

"Look, an aardvark could beat Trump," Diller said.

In an "open, decent race," Trump should not win the presidency, he said: "The idea that this man still stands is just shocking to me."

The IAC and Expedia chairman also doesn't believe President Biden should run again. He told CNBC that he expected Biden to announce that he would only serve one term when he was elected in 2020, but that didn't happen.

"I'd like some new talent in the game," Diller said.

Why It Matters: There's a good chance the 2024 presidential election will look a lot like the 2020 race. If Biden were to win the Democratic nomination, current polls project that he is likely to go up against Trump on the other side.

Benzinga tracks weekly Morning Consult polls, which project potential outcomes based on responses from registered voters. Trump continued to see strong support from Republican voters this week, with 58% of total votes. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was the next closest challenger with 15% of votes.

In a hypothetical rematch of the 2020 election, Biden held a slight lead over Trump, securing 43% of the vote to Trump's 42%.

On the Republican side, Diller noted that he supports former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. Christie received just 2% of the votes in this week's poll. An aardvark was not listed among the potential candidates.
