Republican Presidential Candidate Nikki Haley endorsed a burgeoning movement in Congress advocating for lawmakers to forfeit their salaries if a government shutdown ensues.
What Happened: Haley expressed her support for this policy change during the second GOP debate, saying, “We have to change the budget process."
"In 40 years, Congress has only delivered a budget on time four times. If they don’t keep the government open. They should not get paid. No pay, no budget."

Meanwhile, Chris Christie said "everybody who's in Washington" should share the blame if the government shuts down.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis also blasted "people in Washington" for "shutting down the American Dream with their reckless behavior."
Why It Matters: Last week, after two failed votes, House Republicans rallied on Tuesday to initiate discussions on a series of spending bills, aiming to garner enough support to stave off a government shutdown by week’s end.
The rule was approved by a 216-212 vote, with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) being the solitary Republican to oppose it.
Congress has a mere three days to avert a looming shutdown as no bicameral deal has been reached.
The Senate also proposed its own continuing resolution, which does not incorporate the steep cuts desired by the House GOP and does include approximately $6 billion for Ukraine, a provision many Republicans contest. However, House Republicans have declared the bill dead on arrival, pressing instead for significant cuts and changes to border policy.
