In a recent GOP debate, Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley took a strong stand against fellow contender Vivek Ramaswamy over his views on TikTok.
Haley criticized Ramaswamy’s decision to join TikTok, the video-sharing app that has been banned on government-issued devices due to connections with the Chinese government. Ramaswamy defended his move by stating that joining platforms like TikTok is crucial for reaching younger American voters, The Hill reported.
"This is infuriating because TikTok is one of the most dangerous social media apps that we could have. And … honestly, every time I hear you, I feel a little bit dumber for what you say," she said.
She further accused him of endangering users’ personal data, such as contacts, financial information, and text messages, by endorsing the platform.
Ramaswamy emphasized that while he believes children under 16 should not use addictive social media, it’s imperative to engage with these platforms to win elections and achieve independence from China.
Haley, a former United Nations ambassador, reiterated her tough stance on “Communist China” during the debate, signaling that her campaign will continue to focus on this issue.
