The CEO of X, formerly Twitter, Linda Yaccarino, has contradicted claims that the company is planning to dissolve its election integrity team.
Yaccarino refuted reports insinuating that the team, responsible for combating election fraud and disinformation, was being significantly downsized, reported Business Insider.
The denial came during an interview at Vox’s Code Conference on Wednesday, despite Elon Musk, the company’s former CEO, seemingly confirming the team’s disbanding earlier that day.
While stating X’s commitment to the issue of election integrity, Yaccarino explained that the team was not only intact but expanding. She emphasized the company’s restructuring efforts to meet the requirements of the EU’s Digital Services Act, with roles related to disinformation, impersonation, and election integrity being dispersed across a broader team.
The company also revealed that several team members were undergoing disciplinary action for undisclosed reasons.
The news surfaces amid increased criticism towards X over its handling of disinformation, with a recent EU report highlighting the platform as having the highest proportion of Russian disinformation among major social media platforms.
