Lucid Group Inc. LCID on Friday offered what could potentially be the final teaser of its limited-production Lucid Air Sapphire before it finally hits the road.
What Happened: Lucid shared a picture of its shiny blue Sapphire at its manufacturing facility in Casa Grande Arizona and wrote, “One of the first production Lucid Air Sapphire super sedans goes through ADAS system calibration…”
“Customer deliveries will begin soon,” the post added.
Lucid will start production of the Sapphire in September and start customer deliveries in October, CEO Peter Rawlinson said during the company's second-quarter earnings call in August. Going by the timeline and the latest picture, Sapphire should indeed hit the roads in a few days, or, at most, weeks.
Why It Matters: "With the Lucid Air Sapphire, we have once again raised the bar and increased the gap between Lucid and its competitors, creating the world’s most well-rounded and versatile high-performance EV,” Rawlinson said in the past. He was formerly the chief engineer for Tesla‘s Model S.
With its performance expectations exceeding the Model S, the Sapphire is also priced way higher at $249,000 fully equipped before tax, title, registration, and other fees in the United States. The Model S Plaid currently has a tag of $89,990.
Despite the impressive performance, the most “endearing” aspect of the Sapphire is how “delightful and responsive” it is just to drive normally, Rawlinson said.
