Elon Musk’s border coverage and Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign launch reportedly faced similar technical challenges, highlighting a recurring issue with the tech billionaire’s social media platform, X, formerly Twitter

What Happened: During Musk’s recent live-streamed visit to the US-Mexico border, viewers witnessed an unexpected glitch that disrupted his attempt at citizen journalism.

The tech billionaire’s stream intended to shed light on the immigration situation at Eagle Pass, Texas, but suffered a technical hiccup just minutes into the broadcast.

Musk began the livestream by cautiously remarking, “Let’s just make sure this thing’s working first.”

Following a brief discussion about immigration, his live stream abruptly froze. At this point, Musk reportedly sent an email to his team at X, stating, “Please fix this,” according to Ryan Mac, a reporter at the New York Times.

The incident drew attention because of the technical glitch and because it echoed a similar occurrence in the recent past.

During DeSantis’ presidential campaign launch event in May, X’s live-streaming functionality struggled, repeatedly crashing and causing frustration for Musk.

This correlation was first reported by the Business Insider.

Why It’s Important: It was previously reported that Musk’s visit to Eagle Pass aimed to conduct an on-site assessment and engage in dialogues with important officials and law enforcement figures.

As an immigrant from South Africa himself, Musk stressed the importance of welcoming diligent and morally upright individuals into the U.S. Nevertheless, he strongly advocated for a streamlined legal approval process and expressed his disapproval of granting admission to those who engage in unlawful activities.

Drawing attention to the strain experienced by New York City as a result of the influx of migrants, Musk warned about the potential consequences for both the city and the nation at large. He cautioned that there could be a breakdown in social services without prompt action.
