Donald Trump Says Jimmy Carter 'Wasn't A Great President' While Roasting Joe Biden: 'Darling, I'm No Longer A Bad President'

Former President Donald Trump made a biting comparison between President Joe Biden and Jimmy Carter at the California GOP's fall convention.

What Happened: Trump, in his speech, said Carter — the longest living former president — “wasn’t a great president.”

“Jimmy Carter, I know a lot of you think he wasn’t a great president, but compared to this guy Biden, he was one of the great presidents,” he said.

“The happiest person right now is Jimmy Carter because he said: ‘Darling, I’m no longer a bad president,'” he added.

Why It Matters: Former U.S. President Carter will be marking his 99th birthday on Oct. 1. He has faced several health challenges in recent years, including a cancer diagnosis in 2015, which he overcame.

Carter entered hospice earlier this year. His wife, Rosalynn Carter, also announced a diagnosis of dementia in May. While the former president has curtailed public appearances, he recently surprised attendees at the annual peanut festival in his hometown of Plains, Georgia.

Meanwhile, Trump’s comments against Biden came after the president launched a blistering attack on Trump in Arizona, emphasizing the need for America to confront fresh challenges to its democracy. Biden leveraged John McCain's legacy to underscore his message, stating that the late Senator often prioritized patriotism over party politics. In his address, Biden expressed concern that the current Republican Party might pledge loyalty to Trump over the Constitution.

According to the weekly Morning Consult poll, Biden regained his lead over Trump with a one-point advantage over him. While Biden had 43% support, Trump was behind with 42% support in the national poll.
