'Happy Birthday President:' As Jimmy Carter Turns 99, White House Sets Stage For The Celebrations

The White House is preparing to honor former President Jimmy Carter on his 99th birthday, which falls on Oct. 1.

A unique assembly displaying “Happy Birthday President Carter” has been erected on the North lawn of the White House. The three-tiered cake structure, decorated in red, white, and blue, features 39 candles, signifying Carter’s term as the 39th president, The Hill reported.

Several commemorative events planned for the former president have been brought forward to Saturday due to the potential government shutdown on Sunday. This includes a celebration at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum.

Carter’s birthday is particularly poignant this year as his grandson, Jason Carter, recently revealed that both the former president and his wife, Rosalynn Carter, are in the end stages of their lives. Carter entered hospice care earlier this year, while Rosalynn has been diagnosed with dementia.

The Carters were recently seen at a Georgia festival, a rare public appearance for the couple. Also, earlier this year, President Joe Biden announced that Carter had asked him to deliver his eulogy.
