The recent governmental funding extension has stirred a wave of criticism, including from former Trump adviser, Stephen Miller. He expressed his discontent regarding the extension on Sunday.

What Happened: Miller voiced his dissatisfaction with Congress’ decision to avert a shutdown and extend the government funding for an additional 45 days, as reported by The Hill. He was particularly disappointed with the extension of government funding without any alterations to the current direction of the government.

“Well, I, for one, am not celebrating the fact that we have extended government funding without making any change at all in the direction of this corrupt government,” said Miller in a Fox News interview, according to the report.

Miller criticized the panic over a potential temporary lapse in government funding, comparing this reaction to the indifference towards the “invasion of our border for three straight years.”

The continuing resolution passed by Congress on Saturday ensures current spending levels until Nov. 17 and provides $16 billion in disaster relief. However, Miller pointed out its failure to address GOP provisions regarding border security.

Miller stated he would have backed the stopgap bill if it incorporated border security measures and a Justice Department bill to “defang, disable and defund weaponized government”. He also underscored the need for House Republicans to find strategies to “disable this corrupt government.”

Why It Matters: The recent stopgap bill that Congress passed just hours before a potential government shutdown, did not include provisions for border security, which is a crucial point for Miller.

Miller’s criticism is rooted in his long-standing stance on immigration and border security. In 2018, he reportedly suggested using U.S. predator drones to destroy migrant boats carrying unarmed civilians, as described in a book by former Trump Department of Homeland Security appointee, Miles Taylor.
