Marjorie Taylor Greene Warns GOP Against Expelling Matt Gaetz: 'Absolutely Will Not Be Tolerated By Republicans'

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) has issued a stern warning against any attempts within the GOP to expel Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) from the House.

What Happened: Greene, in a lengthy thread on X, said the move to oust Gaetz "will not be tolerated" by Republican voters, adding that the expulsion plan is unjust.

"And a Republican led effort to expel Matt Gaetz absolutely will not be tolerated by Republicans across the country. I can guarantee you that. Remember when 11 R's voted against me and 10 R's voted to impeach Pres Trump? Both the [motion to vacate] and expulsion plans are wrong," Greene wrote.

Why It Matters: The Florida Republican, who has been issuing threats for several weeks for House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), is reportedly facing calls for his own expulsion. Some House Republicans are considering expulsion if the Ethics Committee finds any misconduct by Gaetz.

Gaetz on Monday initiated a move to unseat McCarthy from his position as House Speaker. Gaetz alleges that McCarthy colluded with Democrats to avoid a government shutdown and accuses him of secretly negotiating with President Joe Biden on aid for Ukraine.

McCarthy has termed Gaetz’s leadership challenge as a disruption, voicing his confidence in surviving. “Bring it on,” he posted on the X platform.
