The U.S. Supreme Court has dismissed a case questioning former President Donald Trump‘s eligibility to run in the 2024 election.
As reported by Reuters, the lawsuit was brought by Texas tax consultant, John Anthony Castro. Castro, who is also seeking the Republican presidential nomination, argued that Trump should be disqualified under the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution. This amendment bars anyone who has “engaged in insurrection or rebellion” from holding public office.

The plaintiff cited Trump’s actions during the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol by his supporters as insurrection. His lawsuit was previously dismissed by a federal judge in June due to a lack of legal standing, leading to the appeal to the Supreme Court.
This may not be the final time the Supreme Court is asked to consider the issue. Other legal challenges related to the 14th Amendment and Trump are currently working their way through lower courts.
Trump, the front-runner for the Republican nomination for the 2024 election, continues to claim that the 2020 election was stolen from him through widespread voting fraud.
