Is Trump Eyeing House Speaker Position? Ex-President Posts Photo Holding A Gavel

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has ignited conversations about his possible future as the Speaker of the House, following a suggestive post made on the Truth Social platform.

Trump shared a photo of himself holding the gavel of the U.S. House of Representatives, reported Forbes. The image, posted on his official account, didn’t include any descriptive text, leaving many to speculate about the intent behind it.

The Speaker of the House position became vacant on Tuesday when Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida initiated a vote that resulted in the removal of Kevin McCarthy from the role. Trump’s suggestive post has prompted some far-right Republicans to propose him as a potential replacement.

Fox News’s Sean Hannity also revealed during his night show on Tuesday that his “sources” suggested Trump might be open to serving as Speaker on a temporary basis.

Speaking to the press in New York on Wednesday, Trump stated, “A lot of people have been calling me about the speaker. All I can say is we will do whatever is best for the country and the Republican Party and people,” as reported by NBC News.

The House is currently in recess following McCarthy’s dismissal and is not expected to reconvene until next week. The current front-runners for the Speaker position are reportedly Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana and Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio.
