Chip Leak Suggests Galaxy S24's Fate Is Sealed — Outshined By iPhone 15 Pro Before Launch

Samsung Electronics Co Ltd.'s SSNLF upcoming chipset, the Exynos 2400, is said to be nowhere close to Apple Inc.'s AAPL A17 Pro chipset.

What Happened: Samsung's upcoming flagship chipset, the Exynos 2400, could end up being far less powerful than Apple's A17 Pro chipset. In fact, it could end up being just as powerful as Qualcomm Inc.'s QCOM Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset announced in 2022, reported Sammobile.

Samsung is expected to use the Exynos 2400 chipset in the Galaxy S24 in markets like Europe and Southeast Asia, while the US will get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered version.

Even then, the A17 Pro chipset is said to be over 30% more powerful than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset in single-core performance.

Some reports suggest that the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ will use the Exynos 2400 chipset in some markets, while the top-tier Galaxy S24 Ultra will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset in all markets.

Despite this, the A17 Pro chipset will still be more powerful than the Galaxy S24 powered by either of the Exynos and Snapdragon chipsets.

Why It Matters: Samsung has been struggling to match the performance of Qualcomm's Snapdragon chipsets for a while now.

Essentially, Samsung's upcoming Exynos-powered Galaxy S24, scheduled to launch in 2024, will be less powerful than 2023's Galaxy S23 series, let alone the iPhone 15 Pro.

In the case of iPhone 15 Pro, this also has real-world implications – Apple revealed that AAA-rated desktop and console games like Death Stranding, Resident Evil 4, and the upcoming Ubisoft game Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be able to run natively on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
